The EPA published a revision to 40 CFR Part 745, a regulation that pertains to lead-based paint in certain residential structures.  Revisions include changes to screening limits for a lead hazard assessment and reduction in clearance levels for lead abatement.  For screening, a lead dust hazard will be considered present on sampled surfaces when any level of lead is reported via analysis by an EPA-recognized NLLAP laboratory.  For clearance levels, revised standards will be 5 µg/ft2 for floors, 40 µg/ft2 for window sills, and 100 µg/ft2 for window troughs.  While the rule has an effective date of January 13, 2025, there is a 1-year grace period for compliance with the screening limits and clearance levels.  After January 11, 2026, full compliance with the revised regulation will be required.
